Summer Vacation Prepare Your Apartment
Summer vacation. The very words stir up memories of years gone by and the now funny bonding stories of prior adventures. Before you head out from your apartment at The Southerly for this year’s summer vacation, read through the handy packing and traveling tips we’ve packed in this month’s post!
Prepare Your Apartment
Set a timer for lights to deter would-be burglars by putting timers on lights in different rooms. Set them to go on and off at various times throughout the night and no one will know you’re not actually there.
Water your plants. If you are going to be away for a long time arrange to have them watered periodically or put all your plants in the bathtub, water them thoroughly then pull the shower curtain. The lack of light can be made up, but keeping them moist is more important.
Clean before you leave. Do your laundry, clean out the refrigerator, sweep and mop, and take out the trash before you leave. Coming home to a clean apartment is definitely worth the time it takes to clean before you go.
The last thing you want to do is leave behind something important when you’re going on a trip — especially documentation. Make a checklist a week before you go. Add and remove items as you remember things you need.
Start packing more than a day in advance of your trip — and weigh your luggage too if you’ll be flying. Check the upcoming weather forecast at your destination and adjust your packing if necessary.
Before you leave, take the time to go through your wallet and take out everything except the necessities (a universal credit card and a backup, an identification card, an insurance card, etc.). Not only will it help you travel lighter, but if your wallet does get lost or stolen, you'll have less to replace.
Home Sweet Home
Before you leave, make plans so your return to Towson, MD is a pleasant and welcoming experience. Be sure to take the trash out, take care of any dirty laundry, and clean out the refrigerator before you leave. In preparation for your homecoming, plan an easy-to-fix meal and freeze it; for example, a frozen lasagna and garlic bread will make an easy, hearty meal. Take time to change the sheets on your bed before you head out the door. There’s nothing like coming home after a trip and slipping between the sheets of a freshly made bed, except perhaps sleeping in your own bed!
We hope you have an awesome summer vacation this year. Thanks for reading today’s blog post.
