May the 4th Be With You Celebrating Star Wars Day at The Southerly
The Star Wars movie franchise just keeps going, backward and forward in a galaxy far, far away. Coming up in May, you can get in on the action by celebrating Star Wars Day (May the 4th Be With You), but beware of any revenge happening soon after (May the Sith) by watching the latest Star Wars movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Solo, opening in theaters on May 25th, focuses on Han Solo, the lovable opportunist. Cinemablend provides a synopsis of the upcoming film: “Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo befriends his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and meets the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga's most unlikely heroes.”
But back to Star Wars Day, celebrated on May 4th. The punny term originated in a half-page advertisement a British paper published in 1979, offering congratulations to newly elected Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, for becoming the first woman to win that office. The text of the ad read, “May The Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations.” (The fourth of course being the pertinent date of the victory.) Star Wars fans started saying it, and it caught on, and with the advent of the internet, the movement grew, until Luke Skywalker Day (or Star Wars Day) came to be.
Reserve the clubhouse at The Southerly, just one of the amenities we provide, and host a Star Wars Day party for your friends and neighbors. In addition to costumes, lightsabers, and perhaps a Falcon replica, having themed food is a fun part of any party. Think about serving Blue Milk, Princess Leia Cupcakes, Tatooine Sunset drinks, and a Severed Wampa Arm Cupcake. You can find these Star Wars recipes on the Today website.
However you celebrate, may the force be with you in Towson, MD or wherever you may happen to travel, particularly if you find yourself in a galaxy far, far away.
